FWTools

FWTools is a set of Open Source GIS binaries for Windows (win32) and Linux (x86) systems produced by Frank Warmerdam (ie. FW). It is intended to be easy for end users to install and get going with. FWTools includes OpenEV, GDAL, MapServer, PROJ.4 and OGDI as well as some supporting components.

GDAL and OGR

GDAL is a translator library for raster geospatial data formats that is released under an X/MIT style Open Source license. As a library, it presents a single abstract data model to the calling application for all supported formats. The related OGR library provides a similar capability for simple features vector data.
